  Took the Intro to Mountaineering Course and it was fantastic! Sarah Janin and Justin Studt were excellent guides, hugely knowledgeable, and very patient and methodical in ensuring that we all picked up the requisite knowledge and skillset. I would certainly recommend these guys if you are looking to get into mountaineering or climbing. As an added benefit they have a well stocked gear room so if you are just getting into it and don't have the equipment, you can borrow a lot of what you need. Great operation!

  I cannot commend enough the exceptional care and expertise of Bob Chase's guiding style. I took a two-day Intro to Mountaineering course with moderate, prior climbing + hiking exposure. After two full days, I feel much more confident in the possibility of a Ranier trip with my friends down the line, my motivation for this class. It’s obvious that Bob’s priorities are first and foremost safety, but also to ensure the active participation + engagement of the holistic experience that anyone would have in the backcountry. His teaching style was simple, clear, patient, kind, highly informative, and a testament to his decades of experience. He has a great attitude and, impressively at 63 years old, genuinely enjoys being an outdoor educator. You can tell he’s always paying attention, keenly aware of each student’s growth areas and professionally positioned to catch mistakes before they turn into consequences. For example, he noticed that I wasn’t wearing sufficient layers, so he brought an extra large down coat and only handed it to me in the back country when he noticed I was getting cold. (As a general rule, they do not provide extra clothing!) This consideration allowed me to take part in the entire day, comfortably. But I observed him taking similar precautions with my partners regarding technical skills, also. The CMS welcome building and multi-team gear organization ran with understated precision. Everything felt seamless! The experience is worth every penny.

  Mike and Ryan were great guides/instructors. We did the three-day, in-person, Avy 1 course and they were both knowledgable about the material and engaging in the class. We walked away feeling more confident about our gear, route planning, and overall safety in the backcountry. If/when we look to take the Avy 2 course, we will coming back to the CMS and hope to have Mike and Ryan leading!

  Joey Thompson is a legend. My buddy and I did some mixed climbing and then some skills training with him and he was really the best guide I’ve ever had the pleasure of climbing with. He is an exceptionally skilled and knowledgeable alpinist, but also a great teacher who pushed us, fun companion, and very reliable and safety-conscious leader. Can’t sing his praises enough. At the end of the day the guide makes the trip but the school’s equipment and facilities were also top-notch so 5 stars all around.
